Thermal Benefits of Roofing Blanket
Fletcher Permastop glasswool blanket insulation, faced with Sisalation®, is available in a range of material R-values—R1.3, R1.8, R2.5, and R3.0—and nominal thicknesses of 55mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 130mm. With the Building Code of Australia often requiring a Total R-Value of R3.2 in many types of construction, you can be confident that, when properly installed, Fletcher Permastop meets compliance standards.
Choosing the right insulation significantly enhances occupant comfort by moderating indoor temperatures, reducing the reliance on artificial heating and cooling, lowering energy costs, and benefiting the environment.
Acoustic Benefits of Permastop Roofing Blanket
Metal deck roofing and wall cladding are popular choices in Australia thanks to their lightweight nature, cost-effectiveness, and suitability for the local climate. While the sound of rain on a metal roof can be pleasant for some, it can become overwhelmingly loud during intense weather events—particularly hailstorms.
Permastop insulation not only provides excellent thermal performance but also serves as an effective acoustic barrier, helping to minimize noise transmission from both external and internal sources. In fact, a 75mm Permastop building blanket can reduce rain noise by up to 18dB(A) when compared to a non-insulated metal roof. It also helps to suppress the sound generated by the rapid thermal expansion of metal roofing under sunlight.
Whether for residential or commercial buildings, Permastop is a smart solution for maintaining a quieter, more comfortable environment.
Condensation & Dust Protection
When a building’s interior is warmer or cooler than the outside temperature, condensation can develop on the underside of metal roofs or walls. To help manage this issue, Permastop glasswool insulation is laminated with a high-quality Sisalation® foil facing, which acts as an effective moisture barrier. This foil not only boosts the thermal performance of the insulation but also prevents moisture penetration, helping to maintain a dry and protected interior.
An added benefit is the reduction in dust transfer, contributing to cleaner roof cavities. In bushfire-prone areas, the foil layer also helps to block embers from entering the roof space, offering an additional layer of protection. Importantly, Permastop insulation is non-combustible, making it a safe and reliable choice for both residential and commercial applications.
Quick Install Tips
- The total R-value of the insulation depends on how it is installed. It may be greater or less than the Material R-value of the product.
- Where aesthetics is of critical importance,we recommend installing the foil layer separately followed by the glasswool building blanket.
- Prior to and during installation, the Building Blanket must be kept dry.
- This Building Blanket is not designed to withstand weathering; hence external cladding shall be applied without delay. The product is notsuitable for applications where subject to wetting or excessive moisture.
- The foil surface shall face inward, except in tropical climates where the foil often faces outwards for condensation control.
- This Building Blanket can be easily cut with the use of a sharp knife and a straight edge to compress the insulation.
Achieving a More Sustainable Outcome
Sustainable practices aim to meet today’s needs while also enhancing the quality of life for future generations. Relying heavily on nonrenewable energy sources is not sustainable and poses serious risks to the environment. One of the most effective ways to improve energy efficiency—and in turn, slow the rise of greenhouse gas emissions—is through the proper specification and installation of insulation.
Fletcher Insulation™ is dedicated to supporting environmental sustainability. Their glasswool insulation products are manufactured using approximately 70% recycled glass, making them a more eco-friendly choice. Additionally, these products meet the Green Star Insulant ODP Emissions credit requirements, as they are free from ozone-depleting substances in both their composition and manufacturing process.
